Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’d been together for more than a decade, and Lydia thought their love was indestructible.
But she was wrong. On her twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident.
When I started reading The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver, I thought it was about a girl living a double life. Boy was I (sort of) wrong. I really should have read the synopsis but oopsie.
The story follows Lydia Bird as she manoeuvres her way through her grief after the loss of her fiancé. Reading this book is like riding a rollercoaster. There are loads of highs and lows, twists, and turns but by the end of the ride, it is calm and comforting. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Once I started it was so hard to stop.
There were some parts of the book that I wish were expounded on though. I kind of wish there were more encounters with Kris. The whole storyline with him was so short that it could have been taken out of the book and it wouldn’t have made a difference. It’s such a shame because those parts got me giddy. I also expected the ending but I wish there was more to it than what was given. The friendship of Lydia and Jonah was so deep that the ending felt cut short.
