I have had my dog, Joey for a lot of months now. I got him late of last year and ever since I got him, my evening routine has not been as solid as it was before. I always mix it up every now and again just to see which one will work best for me and my little one.
Lately, I feel like I have grasped the right routine and I wanted to document it here. In the photo, I added my routine for when I don’t go to the gym but I am focusing more on the days where I come from the gym ’cause those days are more common than not.
Home from the gym
More or less, I get home from work and the gym at around 7:30PM. The first thing I do when I get home is to take Joey outside of the house so he can do his “business”😉. When he is done, I play with him a little and I do leave him outside on a leash so he can get some time outside the house since he is mostly inside.
Shower and Dinner
While Joey is outside, I fix myself. I shower and do my skincare. I also eat dinner. Sometimes, I let Joey in and make him sit beside me while I eat but if he isn’t asking to go in yet I just let him be. After dinner, I wash my dishes and then I prepare Joey’s dinner.
A bit of work/ Playtime with Joey
This part of my routine varies. Joey eats inside my room because that’s where his crate is and if I have work to do, I do them while Joey eats. He takes a long time and I need to be there or else he just follows me around and doesn’t eat (ikr so clingy😓). If I don’t have to work, I wait for him to finish then I play with him for 30 minutes to an hour. I try to tire him out so when it’s time for his bedtime, he won’t have loads of energy.
This part of my night is fairly new. I light a candle and I do my gratitude journal. Once I have finished writing my journal, I try to do some reading. During this part of my night, I try not to interact with anyone. It’s my me time. I have been enjoying this time more than I thought I would and would recommend it to others. It lets me look back at my day and see the good things that happened regardless of my day being bad or not.
To be honest, sometimes I don’t even reach this part of my routine. I usually knock out way before my bedtime. However, if I find some energy to stay up, its either I watch Netflix (I am currently watching YOU) or YouTube. I only watch one or two things before I go to bed. If I can sleep before 11pm I’d be happy but worst-case scenario, I go to bed by 11pm.
So is my routine close to yours? Are there any suggestions you’d like to give me? Let me know in the comments below. I am always open to making my routines better.
